COLLECTION AND DISPOSAL OF PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT IN THE WORKPLACES DURING THE COVID-19 EMERGENCY PHASE.
Regarding the collection and disposal of the DPI – facemasks and gloves - used in workplaces other than health facilities, we point out that:
– the Circular of the Minister of Health n. 5443 of 22/02/2020 specifies that the DPI used for cleaning activities in non-medical premises, potentially contaminated, in which people affected by Coronavirus have been entered: “after use, the disposable DPI should be disposed as potentially infectious material”;
– the Report of the Higher Institute of Health containing “ad interim indications for the management of the urban waste in relation to the transmission of sars-cov-2 virus infection”, updated to March 31st 2020, states that :
In the event of a more cautious management approaches, in the period of epidemic, the DPI used in the workplaces should be managed as “special waste, products out of health facilities which, as a risk, are similar to hazardous waste at risk of infection” regulated by Presidential Decree n. 254/2003.
