This early adoption, ahead of the global deadline of January 1, 2026, aims to harmonize maritime transport regulations with the latest ADR 2025 and RID 2025 rules, ensuring smooth intermodal transport across road, rail, and sea.

One key update is the classification of battery-powered vehicles:
UN 3556 (lithium-ion battery), UN 3557 (lithium-metal battery), UN 3558 (sodium-ion battery), alongside the classic UN 3171.

This harmonization is essential to avoid classification inconsistencies, minimize delays, and streamline international logistics involving dangerous goods.
